An extensive topographical work looking into the beautiful picturesque scenes of England and Wales. Volume I illustrated with two frontispieces, sixteen double-paged maps, and seventy-six plates. Bound without the illustrated title page. Volume II illustrated with a frontispiece, vignette title page, nineteen double-paged maps, and one-hundred and six plates. Volume III illustrated with a vignette title page, twenty-three double-paged maps, and one-hundred and fourteen plates. Bound without the frontispiece. Volume III bound with 'An Alphabetical Chronology of Remarkable Events' to the rear. Arranged by the antiquarian Thomas Dugdale, assisted by William Burnett. Undated, dated from Jisc from a copy held at the British Library. Bookseller's label to the front pastedowns of Volumes I and II. CONDITION In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, boards and spines are a little rubbed. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. Joints are lightly cracked. Hinges are starting but firm. Bookseller's label to the front pastedowns of Volumes I and II. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age-toned with some spots. Frontispiece of Volume I is repaired with tape. The occasional light tidemark, and the occasional ink mark to some pages and plates. Small chip to plate facing page 17 in Volume I. First few pages of Volume II are lightly edgeworn with some small closed tears. Plate of 'Interior of Burlington Arcade' in Volume II with a chip, affecting the image. Closed tear to the plate facing page 1397 in Volume III. Chip to the plate of George IV in Volume III, not affecting image. Closed tears and edgewear to the last few plates of Volume III. Overall Condition: Good GLOSSARY OF TERMS Overall Condition (Dustwrapper condition rating is shown after that for the book itself, where a dustwrapper is present) Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear Very Good Indeed - Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy Very Good - Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy Good - Meaning not very good.     I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
