Full leather with gilt spine lettering on black labels, quarto, 736 two-column pages, 6 engraved plates and three maps. The front paste down and rear endpaper were inscribed by the original owner: “Christopher VA Voorhees This book was bought July 2nd 1834. Price $5.50” Christopher Van Arsdale Voorhees of Somerville (Somerset County) New Jersey, was born on February 23 1811, in Somerville. He was married to Catherine Jane Voorhees (born Covert) The Cottage Bible And Family Expositor: Containing The Old And New Testaments, With Practical Expositions And Explanatory Notes was an 1824 study Bible, compiled by Thomas Williams (1755–1839). The Cottage Bible printed text deemed unsuitable for family reading in smaller type, and exchanged "some phrases also exceptionable to females" for others "more suitable to the present state of our language and of society". The Quarterly Theological Review and Ecclesiastical Record objected to this as a "violation of the purity of the sacred text". The American edition of 1833 printed the whole text in uniform type. CONDITION: Good. (The leather covers are worn at edges and corners, leather is scuffed and rubbed, spine lettering is faded. The front endpaper has a closed tear at the fore-margin. The endpapers and Title Page are foxed, as are the plates and margins of the maps. The text is complete and generally lightly or occasionally moderately, foxed. The binding is tight. A few pages have a small bent corner.) Purchase from as far away as NZ was unusual but the postage options etc were promptly given and the book bought, which arrived after only 2 weeks or so, and in excellent condition - thanks seller and postal services! If I hadn't been so keen to get the book - and now delighted with it - the post alone ~ NZ$100 might have been an obstacle. Fortunately I am rarely tempted to spend so many $$$ for one book so took my chances with delivery etc. Glad I did - book at least as good as described.

After a long search, I was so excited to find these booklets! They were just as described and the seller was easy to work with! They were very prompt with shipping and they packaged the books extremely well. I did not expect to have them so quickly! I’m looking forward to spending some time with these materials.
