Special Facsimile Queen Mary Atlas Author: Various Illustrations by Description : Limited to just 1,000 hand numbered copies. One of the most beautiful series of maps ever made, this was commissioned by Queen Mary Tudor (England) as a gift to her beloved husband King Philip II of Spain. Holding a crucial place in the history of map-making, this is a remarkable portrait of the Renaissance world. A prized possession of the British Library, The Queen Mary Atlas is one of the most remarkable manuscripts in the history of map-making, marking the move from the medieval world view to the more rational approach of the Renaissance. Commissioned by Mary Tudor, the renowned Diogo Homem created maps of a world dominated by Spain and Portugal to interest Mary's husband, Phillip II of Spain. The stories depicted are a great part of the maps' charm and the combination of revelatory detail and exquisite decoration make the Atlas as historically important as it is beautiful. I have included both full two page spreads showing the maps, and a few close ups of really nice detail. Actual atlas is over 23" tall and the case is over 24" tall. ***The normal size book in photo 4 is there for scale only and not included in this listing. You can see it is dwarfed by this stunning atlas! The leather of the atlas itself is rich, full grain calf leather blocked in multi tone and ornate gold crest of the conjoined arms of England and Spain. There are 12 double-page maps and charts, each measuring 31˝ x 22½˝. Each map mounted on a ’guard’, so that it opens absolutely flat. Includes a specially commissioned commentary volume by Peter Barber (seen under the atlas in photo 3) with 96 pages typeset in Founder's Caslon, printed on St Paul's wove paper, bound in buckram, and 12˝ x 7½˝. The clamshell presentation case shown in photo 4 is also bound in buckram. Condition : Very little use and a very crisp set. As the included white slip explains in the left side of photo 5, this is natural leather, very rich and soft for a leather book, and contains natural imperfections, mottling or marks. You can see examples and light scuffing on the back; along with slight impression from where it sits over the commentary book (left side of photo 5). You will almost certainly see similar flaws in even an unopened copy of the same edition.

Great experience with this seller! The DVD was exactly as pictured. DVD was packed with great care, it was bubble wrapped, had packing peanuts on both top and bottom, and fit perfectly inside the shipping box, which kept the DVDs from becoming loose. The seller also responded quickly to my request to ship it express the very day I purchased it. The seller also kept me updated on the shipping progress and shared their experience with shipping and arrival times. Would gladly buy from them again!

The disc case and blu-ray discs arrived safely in the described condition (like new). The discs play back correctly as well. I think the item was extremely good value, and it even came with free shipping, sent to post on the same day! The seller also sent a prompt informational message about how it was shipped, what to expect from shipping, and some details about them. This was a very nice experience all around; I would very much purchase media from this seller again.
