Description
Peak Scenery or The Derbyshire Tourist, 1824, Ebenezer Rhodes, London, Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, Brown and Green and the Author, Sheffield, 8vo, 379pp. 7 road maps and 1 folding map, hand colored. A scarce volume, this much admired tour of England's Peak District is in need of some love and attention. The binding is defective, front cover and several pages detached from binding and spine chipped with loss and damaged. The remaining text block is holding firm however and the pages are generally clean throughout. Carries the signature of Thomas Linthwaite Tudor (1863-1941), the local history and travel writer probably best known for 'The High Peak to Sherwood, the Hills and Dales of Old Mercia' (1926) and 'Derbyshire' (1950). Despite all faults, a fascinating compendium of history and travel with nice provenance that would make an excellent candidate for a sympathetic rebind.

I can't recommend Jeff at New Amsterdam Books highly enough. He was responsive and quick to ship. But he also exceeded expectations in safeguarding and packaging the book for shipment. I won't hesitate to purchase from him again.
