Released in 1979, the RS-2004A has Fisher's built-in five band Graphic Equalizer making it a perfect choice for the true audiophile! It retailed for $350, that's over $1,600 today! In addition to the defeatable 5-band Equalizer, t he front panel offers a Headphone jack, multi-position Speaker & Function selectors, Concentric Volume & Balance controls and buttons for Tape Monitor, EQ Defeat, FM Muting and a Loudness button that contours the sound dynamics perfectly for low level listening. The manual gives this an "RMS" power rating of 90 Watts, or 45 W/Ch into 8Ω through full spectrum and both channels fully driven. All this with an impressive Total Harmonic Distortion of only 0.09%, far below what the human ear can detect! Remember, these are what audiophiles call "Vintage Watts," from an era where, unlike today, it was a sin to manipulate or elaborate the power ratings! The front panel has a 1/4" Headphone jack while the rear offers two speaker zones, an Aux Input, Tape Loop and a stereo Phono Input with a grounding post for your turntables! It also has multiple antenna terminals, an attached AM Antenna, De-emphasis switch, two AC outlets, switched & unswitched and a power fuse. Condition: This rare receiver is in "Very Good" condition with minor signs of use and a nice, bright dial! Aside from a few small scuffs & dings to the veneer, the only other thing worth mentioning is just a few light scuffs to the front panel, most too faint to make out well in the pics. All the original knobs are present & complete, as are the feet and attached AM Antenna & AC cord. The manual has gone missing, but no worries, it's available online or we will send you the PDF file directly on request. A bonus NEW FM Dipole Antenna is included and all comes in the pictured generic box with custom Styrofoam packing. Please do inspect all the pictures thoroughly for actual condition. Service: On inspection, this unit was silent a dark dial, so as with all vintage receivers it went to our tech for servicing. Our tech tracked the issue down to a bad Darlington Power Pack, so to assure a balanced amp, both were replaced, The surrounding circuitry was evaluated and a complete re-build was performed on both channels, including upgrading all caps and transistors! As is common with this model there were signs of over-heating to the poser supply, so it to was completely rebuilt with all transistors and caps upgraded as well! A total of 12 transistors 25 electrolytic capacitors and 2 resistors were upgraded to brand new. high quality parts from Onsemi, Nichicon, Rubycon, etc., no used or NOS components! It's this kind of thoughtful, preventative servicing that makes it smart to buy from a company with an experienced, in-house technician! All the lamps were replaced with long-life LED's! But first our tech did a socket upgrade wo we had more LED's to choose from. We installed Cool Blue LED's in the dial which shine through the best , t hen Green LEDs were chosen for the meters that contrast the dial beautifully. But if you prefer Warm White LED's that shine through the meters with a blue color just let us know BEFORE buying or sending an offer and we will switch it out for you free of charge! All four of the indicator lamps were also upgraded s o you won't have to worry about them either . All vintage receivers receive the following services and much more, all performed by our qualified technician: Lid is removed & unit is inspected to determine if any attempted amateur repairs exist that need to be corrected, or substandard parts that need replacement The exterior, all knobs & plexis are cleaned & detailed While the front panel is removed for cleaning, all attachments are re-glued and dried out foam inserts replaced. All switches & pots are cleaned internally with Specialist Contact Cleaner (proven superior to DeoxIT by our customers), while those with special needs receive the less aggressive DeoxIT F-5 All lamps that are out, or believed to be prone to failure, are replaced if necessary. LEDs are used whenever compatible Any faulty components, or those with known issues, such as jacks, fuse-holders, feet, etc., are replaced All PC boards are inspected; all questionable solder joints are re-flowed All electrolytic caps are inspected for bulging or leakage, those that are at risk or have known issues are checked with the Huntron Tracker (allows evaluation while in-circuit so component does not need to be removed). All questionable caps are replaced with brand new parts, not NOS! DC offset is adjusted & channel levels are calibrated & balanced Tuner is cleaned and both AM & FM aligned Front panel is cleaned & detailed before reassembly Cabinet is cleaned & detailed, any wood is polished with Old English Testing: After servicing, we set it up on our test bench and it did not disappoint, both channels drove our speakers with the warm, distortion-free signal these analog receivers are known for. All inputs, outputs and features were confirmed operational and the tuner spins smoothly. We are in a remote area, still we were able to pull in all our local FM stations with the included wire antenna, activating the tuning meter and lighting the Stereo lamp. Further testing was performed, if there is a specific feature you would like to know more about just let us know before buying.
