Description

NORTHWEST PASSAGE by Kenneth Roberts Maps _________________________________ Full leather binding; 734 pages; Size Approx. 5 1/2 X 8 1/4. Bound by Bayntun of Bath, England for Kroch's and Brentano's, Chicago. Details : This classic novel follows the career of Major Rogers, whose incredible exploits during the French and Indian Wars are told through Langdon Towne, an artist and Harvard student who flees trouble to join the army. This is a beautifully bound copy of Northwest Passage, in full navy blue leather with 5 raised gilt bands and gilt tooling and lettering within 6 gilt ruled spine compartments; the boards have gilt ruled borders, the board edges are gilt, marbled endpapers have twin gilt rules and corner devices to the leather edging. Inside the free endpapers front and back are two maps . (See pictures) The inside edge of the front cover has in small gilt-stamped lettering: " Bound by Bayntun of Bath, England for Kroch's and Brentano's, Chicago" (Bayntun-Riviere is now the last of the great Victorian trade binderies still in family ownership and prides itself on continuing to bind entirely by hand. We can claim to have the largest collection of hand tools and blocks in the world (over 15,000) - some dating back to the eighteenth century and all still usable. We insist on binding in the traditional manner, using the highest quality materials - for example, the edges of all of our bindings are gilded by hand using 23½ct gold (which we prefer to 24ct). We have a range of over 40 colours of premium quality goat and calf skins, and a vast selection of hand-marbled papers. Kroch's and Brentano's was the largest bookstore in Chicago , and at one time it was the largest privately owned bookstore chain in the United States.) The text lists Doubleday and Company as the publisher with a copyright date of 1937. This printing was probably from the 1960's based on dated advertisements of other books by Roberts in the back dating to 1961. A fine addition for your collection of fine bindings and rare books! Condition : Minor wear to the gilt rule border on the back cover in a few small spots, otherwise in fine condition with a solid binding and clean pages. NOTE: The letter/number at the end of the title line for this listing is just an inventory code for locating the book. Free Domestic Economy Shipping! Check out my other items ! Be sure to add me to your favorites list ! About Us: Rivendell Antiquarian Books sells used rare, vintage and collectable books predominantly from pre 1970. We have been sellers of antiquarian books for over 20 years, and our experience helps ensure quality descriptions of our rare and collectable books. Be assured that we want your experience with Rivendell Antiquarian Books to be enjoyable and problem free. We believe that it is a travesty to simply throw away a used book when there is little or nothing wrong with it - we believe in giving each book the chance of finding a new home. We appreciate the impact a good book can have. We know the excitement of a new page turner, or the familiar joy of an old favorite, and we find satisfaction in putting older, and often scarce books in the hands of people who have the same love for old books that we do. Customer Service: Rivendell Antiquarian Books is committed to ensuring each customer is entirely satisfied with their puchase and our service. If you have any issues or concerns please contact us and we will be more than happy to help. Our books have been inspected carefully by hand by experienced book valuers to ensure the condition description is as accurate as possible for this exact copy pictured. If you have questions about the book before or after purchasing, please feel free to contact us! Packaging: We take pride in packaging our books for safe delivery, and if you check our feedback, you will see this reflected in the comments of many pleased customers. For nearly all of our books, we use a specially designed boxing system from IPS (Inovative Packaging Solutions) located in York, PA. These media shipping boxes are designed to conform to the size of the book, securing it and preventing it from bumping around during shipping. The end result is a box which provides a double thickness of cardboard covering the front and back of the book; actually almost like a box within a box. The outer layer of cardboard extends beyond the ends of the inner "box" which very efficiently protects the corners of the book from being bumped and damaged by the sometimes rough handling packages receive in transit. In addition we place the book in a plastic bag to help guard against moisture if a package is left out in the elements. Delivery: We aim to get all books shipped within 24 hours of order except on weekends. We can't control the delivery time once a book leaves our hands, but most of the time USPS is prompt in delivery, and the expected delivery time given by eBay is usually fairly accurate. Because we use media mail to keep costs down, it does take a little longer for delivery, and occasionally packages get delayed in the mail system. If for some reason your order has not arrived within the expected time frame, please get in contact with us so that we can try to help you. PrettyBordersPlus free Template Maker by ISDN*tek
