Lansing's D101 speakers + original American pine enclosures from the era, a McIntosh MC30 vacuum tube power amplifier, a THE FISHER 50 preamplifier (with Telefunken diamond logo), an RCA 70C turntable, a GRAY 108B tonearm, a Fairchild 215A cartridge, and an Ampex B-6299 input transformer. These components are the ultimate setup for experiencing the authentic sound of mono jazz records as they were originally recorded. This collection is so rare that it can be said it may never be available for purchase again. The D101 speakers are the first model designed by James B. Lansing himself, created just three years before his passing. The original cone paper units still in existence are extremely limited—only four or five are known to remain in Japan. This unit was conceived during Lansing's time as vice president of Altec and later released as the inaugural model after founding his own company. Very few people in Japan have had the chance to hear these rare D101 speakers, leading to much speculation among critics. However, those who have experienced the D101 unanimously praise its sound. A quick search will reveal a few firsthand impressions from listeners. The D101 is considered the only unit that truly captures the sound James B. Lansing envisioned. The reason this set is being offered as a complete package is that these carefully selected vintage components are essential for faithfully recreating the original sound. Separating them could risk damaging these rare units or failing to achieve the intended audio quality. Important Notes: This system is designed exclusively for music of its era (jazz and classical). It cannot properly reproduce digitally recorded or modern music, as these sounds were not part of its original design. Connecting the speakers to modern AV or digital amplifiers may damage the fragile cone paper. Given the museum-grade rarity of these units, extreme care is required.
