Description
Portfolio of Dermochromes, Kingsbury, 6th edition 1921, in 3 volumes. Large 4to with all edges gilt. Rebound in brown goatskin with cloth boards. 266 plates in stunning lifelike color, 6 black and white plates. These illustrations were produced by Eduard Jacobi of Freiburg and published in 1904 with the revolutionary new "citochrome" process, allowing color quality never before possible. More plates were added in later editions like this one. These were widely distributed, and are still commonly available. However, the original leather bindings were not archival and are now usually found in very shabby condition. If you've wanted a handsome and sturdy copy of these illustrations, which are, in spite of the subjects, actually very beautiful, here is your chance.
