"George Washington vs. Godzilla," oil on Masonite assemblage. 6'x4'x5" This piece is based on St. George vs. the Dragon, where the people of a village find a dragon that has moved in next to the lake from which they draw their water. The dragon demands a sheep a day from them as payment to let them collect water. When the villagers run out of sheep, the Dragon demands they sacrifice one of their daughters daily as payment. The villagers devise a lottery to choose which girl must go, and soon, the lottery falls on the king's daughter. Despite the king's protests, in the morning, the girl is taken to be sacrificed. St. George, riding by, comes to her rescue, wounds the Dragon, and frees the girl. St. George drags the beast to the village and tells the people that he'll kill it if they accept Christianity. They do, of course, and George cuts the Dragon into pieces, sending it throughout the kingdom. In this piece, we have delivered our Liberty to a monster destroying Washington D.C., the capital of our United States. It will take another George Washington to rid us of the Godzilla that threatens our way of life, and perhaps he will require that we turn back to Christianity before he does.
