The folding plate called for in vol 6 to be opposite p.458 is bound in vol 5 opposite p. 220. The folding chart of the Sea of Marmoura called for in vol 8 to face the title is bound in vol 7 at the rear. The folding Topographical Chart of the City of Constantinople called for in vol 8 to face p. 186 is bound in vol 7 at the rear. The Map of the Situation at Tcherkask and the Map of the Mouths of the Don called for in vol 1 to face p. 348 and p. 339 respectively are not present as such but appear to have been replaced by the uncalled for folding map of the Province of Rastof. The latter is not called for in any volume by that title but is certainly a map made for the present work. The folding General Outline of the Author’s Route called for in vol 8 to be at the rear of that volume is not present, but there are two folding maps of the General Outline of the Author’s Route and the General Outline of the Route in vols 3 and 5 respectively as called for in those volumes.) In all there are 13 engraved folding maps or charts, 11 engraved folding plates (pictorial or diagrammatic) , and an engraved portrait plate of the author. There are also 103 wood engraved vignettes (maps, diagrams, or pictures) as called for in the eight volumes. Old half black calf & marbled boards, smooth backs in five gilt compartments, gilt lettered in the second, all edges sprinkled red. Very good set with unusually crisp clean sheets & maps, some mild age toning & very light occasional foxing, darkening to some plates, good calf repair at head of vol 1, some joints cracked but tight & all holding well.
