Paris, Chez Hamelin-Bergeron, 1816. 3 volumes (2 volumes of Text + 1 Atlas), COMPLETE. In-4 - 21 x 27 cm (Text); Large In-4-25.5 x28 cm (Atlas). xxxij-509 pp. (T.1); xi-(1)-542 pp. (T.2); 96 plates (Atlas). Rear binding in full fawn sheepskin , smooth spine decorated with double gilded lines and cold lines simulating the nerves, author, title and volume number in gold. Very complete copy of his Atlas, made up of 2 volumes containing 39 and 57 plates respectively, or 96 in all, including the first 8 (showing 72 species of wood) in color, watercolored at the time, and 42 double or folding plates. Second edition revised, corrected and considerably expanded by P. Hamelin-Bergeron [pseudonym of Louis-Georges-Isaac Salivet (1737-1805)]. This second edition is recognized as more complete and much superior to the original from 1792-1796 (Brunet I -785) of this work, "in which amateurs are taught how to execute on the Tour à Pointes, à Lunettes, en l'Air, à Guillocher, Carré, à Portraits, à Engraver Glass; And with eccentric, oval, epicycloidal Machines, etc., Everything useful and pleasant that Art can produce. Preceded by elementary notions on the Knowledge of Wood, Carpentry, Blacksmithing, Quenching, Casting of Metals, and other Arts which are linked with that of the Tour". In fact, in addition to wood turning, the author addresses iron working, the turning of architectural pieces, twisted columns and the Archimedes screw, the molding of antlers and horn, etc. Tiny little traces of friction, otherwise very good state of conservation for this work, which is rarely found complete in such good condition. ___ Bookstore L’Art et la Manner 19 Route de Pithiviers 45300 BOYNES France Member of SLAM and LILA ( National Union of Ancient and Modern Bookstores / International League of Old Booksellers) ILAB (International League of Antiquarian Booksellers) English spoken Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any inquiry The greatest care is taken in the description of the works, however, unintentional errors may be made.
