I am a retired ObGyn and medical historian who has collected books and instruments for over 40 years. Age and downsizing have prompted me to pass along my items to younger collectors with the space to display them. Over time, I will be listing approximately 300 books and over 100 instruments on EBay. I collected for content rather than value as artifacts; thus you won't find many museum pieces in my collection. I undoubtedly paid too much for some of my items, but they are being sold here at affordable prices for the average collector. This is an a 1900 2nd edition of " A Textbook of Obstetrics" by Barton C. Hirst. 653 Illustrations. 846 pp. Hardbound in tan leather with gold on burgundy stamping on the spine. As you can see in the photos, the cover shows marked wear and staining. However, the boards and pages are tight, and the pages are unmarked except an owner's signature inside the front cover. It measures ~ 9.5 x 6.5 x 2.5", and weighs ~ 4 lb 12 oz. Barton Cooke Hirst (1861-1935) was professor of ObGyn at the University of Pennsylvania. He was a busy clinician in both obstetrics and gynecology and his life's work was improving the teaching of these subjects in medical school. His textbook went through several editions. He also published well-received Atlases of Operative Obstetrics, and gynecological surgery. I will ship U.S.P.S. Media Mail.
