Beers A complete, rare, large-sized atlas on the county of Susquehanna, with fold-out maps and superb engravings on stone. The township plans, boroughs and town plans are made complete with a sketch on the early history of Susquehanna County and its subdivisions, which are individually described, as well as a table of air line distances between the various areas of the region. The accurate colored maps even include business notices for the principal businesses of the area. A valuable find for any local history and geography books collector. Approx. 82 pages. 13 x 16 inches. Includes over 30 full-color maps with captions and business notices for each area of the county. Complete with a sketch of the early history of Susquehanna County. With a table of air line distances between the various areas of the region. Engravings by Louis E. Neuman. Published by: A. Pomeroy & CO., New York, 1872. Hardback is overall in GOOD- condition. Volume is in overall good condition with some damage and pronounced expected wear to covers from rubbing and fading, and some foxing inside. Quarter leatherbound. Light brown covers feature faded gilt decoration on front and blind-tooled decoration and text on front and back. Boards show considerable wear from rubbing, some staining, and overall fading, as well as notable edgewear from rubbing off of cloth cover, and some chipping and warping. Back cover is detached, and has visible glue residues along both edges. (See photos) Corners are rubbed with exposed boards. Spine shows severe wear with chipping and fading, leather having come off both ends, and showing pronounced aging. (See photos) Binding is broken with some pages partially loose, and some detached. Front pastedown exhibits pencil marks and drawings, and a ballpoint pen dedication from previous owner. (See photos) Hinges are cracked and dry, and hanging on by a thread. Maps exhibit some foxing and occasional staining, mostly marginal, with moderate to pronounced toning. Interior is toned with frequent, sometimes strong foxing and some stains, and general edgewear to pages from closed tears and chips. Some pages display corner chips, edge warping and strong staining and foxing, with dry edges and corners. (See photos) Text block edges show expected wear and aging, with stain to gutter at head.
