With 9 plates, including a folding map, collated and complete. In his preface to the biography, Guedalla argues that after the Waterloo, previous biographies of Wellington decline in to 'a desultory stream of anecdote', and states his intentions to fill this gap, and shed light on Wellesley's career in India. Before turning to writing, Guedella practised as a barrister from 1913 to 1923, and unsuccessfully stood as a parliamentary candidate for the Liberal party five times. CONDITION In quarter calf binding over blue cloth. Externally, generally smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards, joints and the spine, with some light wear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age- toned with the odd spot.     I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
