'Missionary Travels and Researches in South Africa' shows the intellectual breadth of the author in his descriptions of his experiences working as a missionary and travelling in South Africa. Livingstone was well educated on Africa, having spent his sixteen years there reading extensively on religion, medicine, anthropology, and natural history. It was during these sixteen years that he decided to keep a journal on his experiences, knowing that his reputation as an explorer was rising. This work is written in a conversational style with humorous tones. He offers a fantastic, enlightening, and detailed account of the lives of people in South Africa in the mid nineteenth century. The work was very popular upon publication, seeing twelve-thousand copies of the first impression being sold out before publication. David Livingstone was a Victorian hero for his work with the London Missionary Society, as a medical pioneer and explorer in Africa. This book gives great detail into his explorations, including an insight into the years in which is was missing and presumed dead by British authorities. Very speedy delivery and extremely well packaged. The book is in wonderful condition for age, better I think than described. This now sits alongside a companion volume, another work of Worcestershire historian and antiquarian, John Noak. I very much looking forward to reading it. As for price, I snatched the offer and am extremely pleased that I did. This seller is a perfect find on eBay and I would purchase from them without hesitation, saved seller, excellent.
