1857 AFRICA 1 ed David Livingstone Missionary Travels Illustrated MAP Angola RARE “If you have men who will only come if they know there is a good road, I don't want them. I want men who will come if there is no road at all.” ― David Livingstone A rare 1857 edition of David Livingstone’s “ Missionary Travels ”. In this book, Livingstone describes his travel and work as a missionary to the indigenous people in Central and South Africa. Through the mid-19th-century, South Africa was completely unknown to Europeans, thus Livingstone’s mission brought light to more than just spreading the gospel. The work deals with customs, languages, animal and plant biology, geology, topography, and mineralogy in Africa. According to PMM, “The geographical results of his journeys were of supreme importance and made it possible to fill in great stretches of the maps of Central Africa which hitherto had been blank.” ( Printing and Mind of Man 341) Livingstone discovered the Zambesi River and Victoria Falls, which he named. He also explored parts of Angola and Mozambique and met with and observed the Hottentot. He was also able to discover some of the most devastating instances of slave trade which propelled his abolitionist ideals. I bought an item from this seller as a very special Christmas gift to my husband this year. This seller is responsive to any questions you have and takes great pride and care in packaging the item. The shipping was way faster than I expected it to be, and the item was exactly as described. The item is beautiful, and I feel that it was most definitely valued appropriately. Packaging was great and it's condition was phenomenal better than described and shown in the photos!!!! A fantastic value for it's condition compared to others on eBay. Shipping was fast but UPS did make it a complete hassle. Not the sellers fault by any means as he was quite willing to help when I messaged him! Overall a great experience except for UPS lol. I'm very excited to have this as part of my art deco bar collection!

The book arrived in a timely manner. It was in excellent condition and was package very good. I love the book, just didn't realize that it was in French. But that's ok, I still love. I have a lot of stuff on Joan of Arc, Stained glass window, bronze statue and pictures. Would definitely buy from him again.
