Containing a complete series of retrospective and historical questions at the end of each reign; and chronological tables of contemporary sovereigns, popes and other eminent persons; also critical and explanatory notes on antiquities, manners, customs, etc. With previous owner's name in an ink inscription to front blank. CONDITION In a half calf binding with marbled paper covered boards. Externally, smart with some bumping and wear to extremities and slight rubbing to boards. Front hinge of first volume slightly strained. Internally, firmly bound. Bright but with the occasional spot and slight spotting to first and last few pages. With off setting from binding to endpaper. With light background foxing to reverse of map. With a small closed tear to front free endpaper of second volume. I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
