Original publisher leather binding with gilt title lettering and embellishments to the spine . Exterior shows wear for age including rubbing and soiling to the boards and spine, wear to the joints , light chipping to the leather visible on the front cover, general wear around the extremities including bumping to the corners and spine extremes, fraying to the cloth, and a bit of rubbing and soiling to the page edges, as well as moderate fading to the marbling. Otherwise very presentable! A great antique look about this volume! The gilt title lettering on the spine displays nicely from the shelf despite wear. Internally this volume is in good shape as well. Both the front and rear hinges show some wear, however both boards and all page groupings remain firmly attached to the binding. Volume feels tight. Endpapers show moderate foxing and light staining. Otherwise clean with no bookplates, signatures, inscriptions or library markings to note. The text block of this volume is clean overall. Pages show typical age-related toning, light soiling and light to moderate foxing throughout, and some additional wear in the margins including light corner creasing and light staining . Otherwise this volume is quite clean and perfectly readable throughout! Illustrated with numerous plates before the main text and includes two folding maps, one hand-colored. The map of Palestine shows some tearing as pictured but presents nicely overall.
