Collated, volume I is illustrated with a portrait frontispiece, folding map and a further twenty-seven plates. Volume II is illustrated with a frontispiece, folding map, and a further twenty-five engraved plates. Volume I lacks two plates. Horsfield was an English Nonconformist minister, topographer, and historian who authored a similar work about the town of Lewes. With the inscription 'To Bernard, from Mary', dated 1957, to the front free endpaper of volume I. Retaining the publisher's advertisement leaf to the rear of volume II. A smart example of this informative guide to early nineteenth century Sussex. CONDITION Rebound in half calf, with marbled paper covered boards. Endpapers renewed. Volume I hinges, and volume II rear hinge strained, but firmly held. Inscription to front free endpaper of volume I. Internally, firmly bound. Instances of significant spotting to plate perimeters and pages surrounding plates, with pages otherwise generally clean and bright. Overall Condition: Very Good GLOSSARY OF TERMS Overall Condition (Dustwrapper condition rating is shown after that for the book itself, where a dustwrapper is present) Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear Very Good Indeed - Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy Very Good - Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy Good - Meaning not very good.
