Description

1829 POLYNESIA 1 ed Missionary Ellis TAHITI South Pacific Hawaii Islands MAP 2v “ One of the earliest instances of ethnological research by a missionary, and valuable for its information on the mythology, traditions, customs of the south sea islanders ” – Cox William Ellis was a 19 th -century British missionary who is known for his voyages to South Pacific islands, Hawaii, and Madagascar. It was, however, his mission to Polynesia that proved to be his most important. In 1816, Ellis and his family were greeted by numerous tribes from various Polynesian islands. His voyage took him to Tahiti where he was able to establish churches. His travelogue entitled “ Polynesian Researches ” became one of the best resources for British readers on the natural history and scenery of Polynesia. This 1829 first edition of Ellis’s account of the South Pacific is notable for both full-page and in-text illustrations – views of canoes and ships, pagan idols, portraits of chiefs, and even the highly coveted folding map of Polynesia. I bought an item from this seller as a very special Christmas gift to my husband this year. This seller is responsive to any questions you have and takes great pride and care in packaging the item. The shipping was way faster than I expected it to be, and the item was exactly as described. The item is beautiful, and I feel that it was most definitely valued appropriately. I highly recommend this seller, and my experience was exceptionally positive.

Packaging was great and it's condition was phenomenal better than described and shown in the photos!!!! A fantastic value for it's condition compared to others on eBay. Shipping was fast but UPS did make it a complete hassle. Not the sellers fault by any means as he was quite willing to help when I messaged him! Overall a great experience except for UPS lol. I'm very excited to have this as part of my art deco bar collection!

The book arrived in a timely manner. It was in excellent condition and was package very good. I love the book, just didn't realize that it was in French. But that's ok, I still love. I have a lot of stuff on Joan of Arc, Stained glass window, bronze statue and pictures. Would definitely buy from him again.
