Illustrated throughout with a series of views from G. Shepherd and H. Gastineau. Illustrated with an engraved title page, folding map and 124 further plates: folding map, engraved title page and thirty plates to volume I; twenty-seven plates to volume II; twenty-nine plates to volume III and thirty-eight plates to volume IV. Collated, complete. With an index to the rear of each volume, and an errata to the rear of volume IV. With the inscription of Margaret Ridgen, 1830, to a front endpaper of volume I. An excellent first edition work from gothic author and historian Ireland, best remembered now, however, for his forgeries of would-be Shakespeare documents and plays. CONDITION In full tree calf bindings. Rubbing to back strips and board perimeters. Front and rear joint of volume I, front joint of volume II, and tail of front joint of volume IV starting, with boards all holding firm. Contemporary inscription to front endpaper of volume I. Internally, firmly bound. Instances of spotting and discolouration throughout, most prominent to volume I, plates, and pages surrounding plates.
