Original blue wraps bound in. Illustrated with a folding map to the frontispiece, and seven plates. Bettison's comprehensive visitor's guide and history of Cheltenham, a useful pocket guide for the resident and visitor. A charming work that shows the town as it was during its heyday. Cheltenham started to rapidly gain popularity after the discovery of mineral springs in 1716, the town subsequently becoming a popular resort in Georgian England. Notable residents include Sarah Burney and Eddie the Eagle. Undated, dated from Jisc from a copy held at the British Library. Two pages of adverts to the rear. CONDITION Rebound in a half straight grain morocco binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, smart. Spine is very lightly faded. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with occasional spots. Folding map has been closely trimmed to the bottom edge, affecting the caption. Some pages unopened to the top edge.     I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
