Description
1808 SLAVERY 1 ed Clarkson History of Slave Trade British Abolition MAP Africa 2v An extremely rare pre-Civil War historical account of the abolition of slavery in Great Britain. Thomas Clarkson is considered by many to be a local English hero. He was first and foremost an abolitionist and was the leader in the plan to abolish slave trade in Great Britain. Following the passage of the Slave Trade Act in 1807, Clarkson published his work, ‘ The History of the Rise, Progress, and Accomplishment of the Abolition of the African Slave-Trade’ in 1808. This would eventually have a substantial impact on the abolition of slavery and slave trade in the Americas. In it, Clarkson discusses major European powers, particularly English royalty and the papacy, and their role in allowing slavery. Other notable contents include the influence of Quakers both in England and in America. This highly valuable first edition features the frequently-removed engraving of the African slave ships. Packaging was great and it's condition was phenomenal better than described and shown in the photos!!!! A fantastic value for it's condition compared to others on eBay. Shipping was fast but UPS did make it a complete hassle. Not the sellers fault by any means as he was quite willing to help when I messaged him! Overall a great experience except for UPS lol. I'm very excited to have this as part of my art deco bar collection!
