Bertrandon was a Burgundian spy and pilgrim, best known for his lively and detailed account of Palestine, noting the political situations and practical customs of the country. Illustrated with a folding map to the frontispiece, and one plate. Collated, complete. Translated into English by Thomas Johnes. Bookplate of Edwin Frederick Fitch to the front paste down. CONDITION In a full calf binding, rebacked with the original boards restored. Externally generally smart. Some rubbing and marks to the boards. Light bumping to the extremities. Bookplate to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean, with just a couple of odd spots.     I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
