Illustrated with a folding map to the frontispiece. Collated, complete. Collated from Jisc from a copy held at the University of Leeds Library. A notable travel work on Demerara, a detailed and vivid account of the author's travels there from November 1798 to October 1805. During this trip Bolingbroke also visited and documented other British colonies of the Guiana. This work explores the history and culture of Demerara and the surrounding areas, as well as questioning the practice of slavery, and ruminating on subjects such as coffee and sugar cultivation. By Henry Bolingbroke. CONDITION In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart, with some rubbing and spots to the boards and spine. Spine is a little discoloured. Front joint is a little cracked. Bookseller's label to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with some odd spots, mostly to the first and last few pages. Overall Condition: Very Good GLOSSARY OF TERMS Overall Condition (Dustwrapper condition rating is shown after that for the book itself, where a dustwrapper is present) Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear Very Good Indeed - Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy Very Good - Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy Good - Meaning not very good.     I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
