Collated, complete. This extensive history remains a classic and stable text on the subject. It was a great success when it was first published, including being approved by many Russian nobles. The author not only used Russian archives and documents to research this work, but he also lived in Saint Petersburg for seven years. The history starts with Slavic antiquity to the end of the eighteenth century. Russia has a long and fascinating history, with some of the influential figures including Ivan IV the Terrible and Catherine the Great. This work had a direct influence on how Russia was viewed in Europe and Russian historiographers in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century. Levesque was a protegee of Denis Diderot, and went to work as a Professor in Saint Petersburg upon his recommendation. He was one of the first Frenchmen to go to Saint Petersburg. He was also a translator of Xenophon and Plutarch. CONDITION In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, smart. Light rubbing to the boards. I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.

Excellent in every respect; much better than originally described and pictured. The shipping was exceptionally fast, and the books arrived precisely on schedule. The packaging was both robust and thoughtful, which always makes a most distinct difference. I am grateful for this great value and for your having accepted my offer. Thank you so much for a truly pluperfect transaction.

The shipping was lightning fast, arriving in 3 days from UK to US. The book was packaged with extreme care, very important for an antique book. The overall condition of the book is also unbelievable for its age, even better than described. I’ve purchased numerous other books from this seller, and the quality and price have always been outstanding. Great eBay seller. Thanks!
