Volume I illustrated with a frontispiece, one folding plate, and one plate. Volume II illustrated with eight plates. Four of the plates in this volume were supposed to be bound in Volume IV. Collated, complete. Collated from Jisc from copies held at the British Library and Kew Royal Botanical Gardens. Volumes I, II, and III are the third editions. Volume IV is the first edition. Volume IV bound without the half-title. Half-title is present to Volumes I, II, and III. The travel accounts of Carl Peter Thunberg, documenting his travels throughout Europe, Africa, and Asia between 1770 and 1779. Thunberg was a naturalist, collecting and describing plants and animals across Africa and Asia, many of which were new to European science. One page of publisher's adverts to the rear of Volume IV. CONDITION In a full calf binding. Externally, generally smart. with a little rubbing to the spines. Minor bumping to the extremities. Spines are lightly discoloured. Small cracks to the joints. A few light marks to the boards. Small patch of loss to the spine of Volume III. Small chip to the front free endpaper of Volume I. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean with some spots.
