This is a superb Holy Bible, restored at the best bookbinder in the UK. Full of superb engravings and four fold out maps. "The Book of Common Prayer And Administration of the Sacraments..." Minor wear or blemishes else very good. BOUND WITH "The Holy Bible Containing The Old & New Testaments, Newly Translated Out of the Original Tongues..." Oxford: John Baskett, Printer to the Universtiy. Dated: MDCCXXXVIII (1738) Engraved plus printed title pages. Collates A-Yy4 (OT), A-K7 (Apocrypha), A-O4 (NT), A-I4 (Index & History) Separate printed titles to OT and NT. No title called for in Apocrypha. Separate Index and History in the rear following Revelation. 204 numbered engravings, four to a page (Two leaves of engravings lacking and one with tear). For stunning fold-out maps present. All in all in very good condition with minor wear and the odd clean tear, etc. Some detached. A Little marginal wear in the odd place else a lovely copy This Bible came back from a UK book binder with 30 year binding history. It was respined over raise bands with original gilt leather spine relaid. This is a beautifuld dark red leather binding with gilt tooled borders and center lozenge to front and rear. Gilt ornately decorated spine. New Gilt lettered label. One of the nicest bindings I've seen. 10" x 8.5" x4.25" thick. See images for more info.
