The first volume part one contains what has happened from the invasion of Julius Caesar, until the Norman conquest, the second part what happened in England, from the dissolution of the Heptarchy, until the Norman conquest. With four plates, two foldout maps, one foldout table and four numbered two-page plates of tables to rear one of which foldout. The second volume contains what happened in England from William the Conqueror, until the end of reign of Henry III. With one plate, one foldout table and one foldout map. The third volume contains what happened in England from the beginning of the reign of Edward I until the end of the reign of Henry V. with three plates, two foldout tables and one foldout map. The fourth volume contains what happened in England from the beginning of the reign of Henry VI until the end of the reign of Henry VII. With one foldout table and one foldout map. [collated, complete] Paul de Rapin (1661 - 1725), sieur of Thoyras (and therefore styled Thoyras de Rapin), was a French historian writing under English patronage. His great work was L'Histoire d'Angleterre. Previous owner's bookplate to front of last three volumes. CONDITION In contemporary calf bindings. Externally, sound but with some wear to extremities, loss to backstrips and some spine labels absent (some of which have been inserted to volumes) or with loss and marks to boards. Six joints starting, one very slightly starting, four cracked, three held by cords only. Internally, generally firmly bound. Bright but with slight scattered foxing and marks to pages, occasional tidemarks and the odd closed tear in particular to foldouts.
