THE KING JAMES BIBLE First Small Folio Edition London, 1616 Bible in English. Small Folio (App. 14 x 9 in). "The Holy Bible... Imprinted at London by Robert Barker, Printer to His Most Excellent Majesty, 1616." The first small folio edition of the Authorized (King James) Version of the Bible. This listing offers collectors the opportunity to secure an important first edition of the King James Bible at a fraction of the price of the larger folio issues of 1611 (The Great "He" and Great "She" Bibles). The "small folio" format was popular among smaller congregations, as well as for individual use in private chapels frequented by the nobility. According to Dr. Scrivener, this was the earliest edition "to receive any considerable revision." [Specifically, there was a coordinated attempt to standardize textual variants prior to publication.] It is printed in Roman type, with an impressive full-page woodcut of the Garden of Eden facing the first leaf of Genesis, two woodcut titles, numerous woodcut initials, and woodcut headpieces and tailpieces. The present copy with manuscript poem to initial title verso, and with small manuscript tipped in to gutter following NT title-page. Also with manuscript genealogical notes to front and rear pastedowns, being notes of the Bradwell family, with dates ranging from around the mid 1700s into the early to mid 1800s. Complete with all titles, with General Title and New Testament titles present, both within decorative woodcut borders, Apocrypha present. Bound at front with Book of Common Prayer (1616) and Speed's genealogies (both defective, map is partially present); bound at end is The Whole Booke of Psalms (London, 1624, complete.) Book was delivered and was wrapped very well to prevent any damage during transport. Book was as described. Would definitely order again from this seller !!
